I Built Learning Loft for Families Like Mine

Life as a Mum and Educator

As a teacher with nearly two decades of experience under my belt, I've helped countless children unlock their potential in the classroom. As an educational consultant, I've worked alongside schools across the UK—supporting teachers, leaders, and thousands of pupils. But, hands down, the hardest job I've ever tackled is being a mum.

Like you, I know what summer's really like. You're juggling work, trying to keep the kids entertained, create those special memories, and avoid the dreaded excess of screen time. And somewhere, woven into our everyday, there's that little niggle in the back of our minds asking...

“Will they forget everything they’ve learnt this year?”

We all want the best for our children, don't we? Each September, I see firsthand how children come back to school after the summer—a little less fluent in reading, a bit slower at maths, and their confidence taking a slight dip. No, they haven't become less capable. They have simply had a break from exercising their most important muscle: their brain.

This is what teachers often call the 'summer learning slide'. For parents, it translates to plain worry. This is the gap I wanted to bridge, and it's why Learning Loft was born.

Learning Should Fit Around Family Life

When I started working on Learning Loft, the driving question was simple: What would I actually use with my own boys? Endless worksheets were a definitive no, as were countless hours stationed at the kitchen table, and yet another app littered with distracting ads.

Instead, I envisioned a space where children could drop in for a spontaneous 10 or 15 minutes, immerse themselves in genuine learning, and then sprint back outside to soak up summer fun. Childhood should be about adventures and discovery, not a season spent chained to textbooks. Learning should accentuate these memories, not replace them.

Built by Teachers. Designed for Real Families.

No two children learn in the exact same way; this is one of the key insights from my years in education. Some kids thrive on quizzes, while others need the rhythmic practice of reading or the reinforcement gained through speaking.

Our aim with Learning Loft was never to craft a one-size-fits-all application. Instead, we've built a comprehensive learning platform. A single membership provides families with a buffet of engaging educational tools, crafted by experienced educators ready to support learning from the comfort of home.

Why Small Chunks of Learning Matter

Many parents want to know how much learning should fit into a child's holiday, and my answer often surprises them. It's not about accumulating hours, but ensuring consistency.

Just ten or fifteen minutes a day can make a huge difference.

This small, dedicated window keeps vital skills polished, boosts confidence, and helps smooth out the 'September wobble'. Kids return to school ready to soak up new knowledge, having maintained the momentum of learning.

This is the essence of Learning Loft's design: Dip in. Enjoy. Learn something. Then dash back outside. Repeat tomorrow.

Learning Loft: More Than Summer Learning

Though summer is often when many families first stumble upon Learning Loft, our platform is here to support children through every season.

Whether your child requires:

  • Primary tutoring
  • Online GCSE revision
  • 11+ preparation
  • Home education resources
  • Reading and maths practice
  • Phonics play
  • Confidence building
  • Oracy and speaking practice

our offering is a one-stop destination packed with resources crafted by teachers who truly comprehend children's educational needs.

Why This Means So Much to Me

Learning Loft isn't just another business for me; it's an extension of my years spent nurturing young minds, refining school initiatives, and researching educational best practices.

But on a more personal note, it's something I've curated with my own children in mind. If I wouldn't approve of my boys using it, it simply doesn't make the cut. If it's not genuinely educational, it gets pulled off. And if it doesn't engage kids to the point of making them smile, we go back to the drawing board.

I firmly believe learning shouldn't come to a halt just because schools break for summer.

Equally, I don't agree with a summer bogged down by stacks of workbooks. There's a healthier balance to strike, one where children can revel in their holidays and head back to school in September feeling empowered and eager to embrace the learning ahead.
