Online British-curriculum tutoring in France

Learning Loft tutors British-curriculum pupils across France in IGCSE, GCSE and A-Level subjects, live and one to one with UK-qualified teachers on LoftClass. France is one hour ahead of the UK.

Who this is for

British families in France split between international sections of French schools, dedicated British schools in Paris and the south, and full immersion in the French system. Pupils in the French system who want UK qualifications typically sit IGCSEs as private candidates or in a small number of accredited centres.

Why families in France come to us

  • Pupils in the French system sitting IGCSE English as an additional qualification
  • Learning UK mark-scheme expectations after training in French dissertation structure
  • Maintaining written English at academic level for children schooled in French
  • A-Level support for students applying to UK universities from France

Qualifications we support

Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE for Key Stage 4, A-Levels at sixth form. Pupils in the French system carry strong analytical training but often need to learn the very different expectations of a UK mark scheme.

  • Cambridge IGCSE
  • Pearson Edexcel International GCSE
  • A-Level
  • KS3
  • Academic English

Time zones and scheduling

France is UTC+1 in winter and UTC+2 in summer — always one hour ahead of the UK.

French school days run long, so 18:00–20:30 local time is the realistic window for most families.

Sessions are booked as a fixed weekly slot wherever possible, so the appointment becomes part of the week rather than something renegotiated every Sunday. If a school trip or a family holiday gets in the way, the slot can be moved.

How the sessions work

  1. Tell us the school, board and year group. That is what determines the right tutor — not a general subject label.
  2. Free 15-minute discovery call. We check the match before you pay for anything.
  3. Live sessions in LoftClass. Our own virtual classroom, built for teaching rather than adapted from business video-conferencing: shared whiteboard, document sharing, recordings.
  4. A short written summary after each session so parents in a different time zone still know what was covered and what to practise.

Who teaches the sessions

Every tutor is a UK-qualified, DBS-checked teacher with classroom experience of the specification they teach. We do not recruit undergraduates, and we do not claim accreditations, awards or partnerships we do not hold. Learning Loft is a UK company; all tuition is delivered online from the UK.

Frequently asked questions

My child is in the French system. Can they still take IGCSEs?

Yes, usually as a private candidate. We teach the specification and exam technique; you arrange the entry with an accredited centre. English Language and Literature are the most common choices.

Why do French-schooled pupils struggle with UK mark schemes?

French academic writing rewards a formal thesis structure, while UK mark schemes reward explicit analysis of specific evidence against stated assessment objectives. Tutors teach that difference directly rather than treating it as a language problem.

Which subjects do you offer?

English Language and Literature, Maths, the Sciences, History, Geography, Business and Economics are all available for France-based pupils.

How do I request a tutor?

Tell us the pupil’s year group, subject, exam board and preferred times. We will match a suitable UK-qualified teacher and confirm an available slot.
